are all civic top hats the same??
well i plan on buying some EG tophats off a friend for cheap because i don't want to go out and rent a spring compressor and take the stock top hats of my 98 coupe. so i was just wondering if they are all the same? the top hats with be going on my ws coilovers and i'll probably take the bumpstop while i'm at it. thank you however i do remember seeing a thread by spade saying that 96-98 top hats are different that 99-00

they're slightly different but you can get them to fit. we tried to put some top hats onto my friends EG (top hats from an EK i believe), and the EK top hats had these small notches on the side so it wouldn't fit through the hole on the shock tower. we had to grind them down to fit.

so i'm guessing if i had the eg top hats i wouldn't need to do any modification?
cause what i picked up from your response was this:
ek top hats onto eg = modification
eg top hats onto ek = no modification because there would be no 'small notches'

yeah or it could be the other way around, but either way you can get it to fit with little modification.

you don't need a spring compresor btw, just get 2 vice clamps, and wrench the springlands closer togther, grab a pillow and some *****. If you are getting new top hats, i have mugen bushings for them, $35 front, $35 rear

will there still be tension if i vice clamp the spring together on the top end? or in other words would it still 'shoot' out?
