Default Air Intake Replace Question

Right now I have a Spectre intake.I have to buy a new one.And I want to buy a cold air intake. My question is,do i have to buy the whole thing or just buy the filter with the cover like the one that K&N Sell. When I say the cover is the thing that covers the filter from the heat.

This is my car motor

Any Particular reason you want a cold air intake? Dyno tests for years have proven that a 3" diameter pipe with a velocity stack is the best intake for 99% of setups. Ideally tuned to the proper length.

You really don't need a "brand." Have a shop cut you a 21" long 3" diameter pipe for $10. It will be as good as the $100 pipe any company will sell you. Hell if the metal is a good conductor it might even be marginally better.

Why do you have to buy a new one?

That one on there looks caked in mud. Actually that whole engine bay needs an overhaul. That header is rusted to hell. There seems to be hard water stains on everything. That tie bar isn't doing anything and that valve cover needs a decent paint job.

First of all welcome to HondaTech lol!
Yes you will need a whole new pipe because A Cold air intake/ CAI is longer then the short ram intake you have on now because it goes from the Throttle body into the bumper. And if you want you can get a cover to keep the water/rain/puddles getting sucked in the filter, through the whole intake system and eventually into the Engine......SO lets back up here. CAI's can F*CK up your engine. Unless you live in an area where it almost never rains. My recommendation is keep that intake you have and just change the filter..or this bad boy: http://passwordjdm.com/PasswordJDM-D...P1979C213.aspx

The PWJDM intake is a miserable excuse for an intake. The only good thing it does is sound cool.

Again, time and time again it has been proven that the best intake 99% of the time is a tuned length short ram intake with a velocity stack

End of story.

I doubt he is gonna tune/customize a short ram intake. powerchambers are expensive BUT they are better then the intake he has now 3-5 hp max. And he was looking to get more performance END OF STORY!

3-5 horsepower is a performance gain to you? Ha!
Again, check my sig if you want to learn how to make power.

It doesn't matter. You really cannot beat a short ram intake. It's a 3" tube of aluminum with a velocity stack.

I didn't mention power chambers, and power chambers have been proven to not be as effective as slapping on a 3" pipe with a velocity stack.

Also, even if it were better, is it justifiable to spend $300-400 on a cold air intake or a short ram to get 3-5whp?

Also, you're probably only shifting where that power occurs to the top end. Sure, horsepower gain, but your car isn't faster.

This listing () has been removed, or this item is not available.
It doesn't matter if it fits.

Getting a workable cheap header off of ebay is like rolling a 25-sided die and hoping for a 1.

Almost all of them will crack..

Just my freind who had one.

One or 2 of the holes on the flange didn't quite line up right, so he had to make the holes a little bigger, so it would fit on.
Welds on flange cracked twice, in 2 different places. The collector had to be re welded all around, it leaked terribly. He also told me, the 02 hole wasn't even threaded. Don't forget it was rusty as hell in 2 months.

He ended up bottoming out on the header and pretty much killed it. 3 runners on the flange cracked, and he damn near closed the pipe up.

It cracking is a guarantee. It's only a matter of time.
