Air Condition issue
Its a 94 Civic DX and my A/C will work one minute and then it will just start blowing hot air. Then after 10-15 min it will kick back on cold. When its blowing hot air, the condensor fan is not spinning. All fuses are good and freon is full.
Does anyone know what I should check or possible change?
Thanks

Re: Air Condition issue
Does the compressor clutch also disengage when the A/C stops blowing cold? If so, try jumping the pressure switch connector and then the thermostat connector when the A/C won't blow cold.

Re: Air Condition issue
bump ?
here's a thread on AC's:
https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-accord-1990-2002-2/constant-air-conditioning-problems-2595103/
i have a similar problem with my AC. When it works, it works fine. But when it gets too hot in the car, my AC just won't blow cold air. I don't even think the compressor starts to run. I think it may be the internal thermostat sensor switch.
What do you guys think?

Re: Air Condition issue
Does the condenser fan also fail to run when the A/C won't blow cold? Try doing the same test that I mentioned for the pressure switch on the A/C thermostat (thermoswitch) connector on the evaporator.

Re: Air Condition issue
Whats the easiest way to locate the thermoswitch your speaking of? Its different from the one that goes to the radiator hose correct?
I also noticed that when its real hot outside around 80-85 degrees, thats when it doesnt engage and work. It likes to be nice when its around 70-75 degrees and late nights.

Re: Air Condition issue
Where did those diagrams come from?
also, if this a/c problem is such a common problem of 5th gen civics , then why is it hard to find info on how to fix it?!

Re: Air Condition issue
I think my ac/heater control panel might be the problem. When it went hot on me, I tried banging on it and cold air came right back on. I also have to bang on it at night to get my lights to come on , so it might just be a bad unit.
Thanks for your help RonJ!

Re: Air Condition issue
I have read several threads on the forum where a person's A/C won't work in hot weather, and the problem turned out to be a bad heater control panel (circuit board). You may want to do more searches for such threads. Click here for one member's experience that I could find.
http://honda.lioness.googlepages.com/airconditioning
this page was reallllly helpful.
I opened up my dash and pulled out my heater control panel (pain to get out). And when I got to the circuitboard, I found that the solder joints were all cracked - which means my A/C button didnt work! I soldered it back together nicely (i have pics if u wanna see) and i recharged my A/C.
So hopefully, this week i'll experiment and see if my a/c works better in hot weather.
