AC problem
Hi, i have a 98 civic ex d16y8 5spd, when i turned my AC while driving, with constant gas applied, the engine sometimes would chock, I don't know how to explain it, my rpm drops a little when i feel that chock, but only for like a second everytime this happened.
is this normal?

Re: AC problem (jordan88)
My 95 d16z6 does it and I think it's normal. The ac is a significant strain on the engine especially with these low hp engines.

Re: AC problem (riversideguy)
using the ac does put strain on the engine. i forgot how much it was but i saw some percentages of what the loss of hp is but, for sure there is some sort of loss. i remember when i used to use it on my si the car would feel extremely sluggish, i was scared to hit vtec when i had the ac because the car just didnt seem right
