Default '99 EX sedan 63k, long cranking in cold weather?

We live in Northern New England so at night it is already in the 20's up here and is usually in the 40's during the day. Yesterday it was about 40 during the day, when I came out of my uncles house to go home after traveling about 2 hours up there it was in the 30’s. Our ’99 Civic EX sedan with 63k on the clock cranked for a while before she started? It has brand new gaped correctly NGK’s in it, fresh 5W30 oil , half tank of gas, and the anti-freeze tested gooddown to –45 degrees!! The only thing that looks out of whack is the battery it has clean terminals, but the clear eye is dark not green like it suppose to be?? But will a stock Honda battery go in 63K???? I am going to have AutoZone test the battery and charging system for me.

Battery life depends on lots of things. It's possible that you got a crappy one. I just replaced the factory batter in my 98 at about 90,000 miles. But I live in FL where it's warm. The cold weather is harder on batteries. Go get a new battery with a high CCA rating.

I had the ORIGINAL battery in the car which is 5 YEARS OLD NOW! The test was OK but not great the machine said on the read out charge and re-test. they checked teh alterntor also and it was puting out 14volts plus so it is good. The factory battery is old and only came with 405 CCA from the factory. I am going to replace it with a 500 CCA aftermarket battery, anyone had any luck witha model or brand?
