Ok guys, just finished my rear disc conversion on my 99 civic dx. I used 98 GSR (USDM) rear trailing arms, 94 civic e-brake lines and earls ss brake line kit for a 98 GSR. My friend and I got everything on with no problems but my pedal still feels soft and travels pretty far down. We bleed the brakes a few times and when the car is off the pedal feels hard but as soon as I turn on the car the pedal goes down low. Anyone know what could cause this? I didnt change the prop valve since it is the same as the 99-00 SI (checked it up on hondaautomotiveparts.com and a few of the threads here). I also did not change the brake booster or the master cylinder (brake booster for a 99 dx is the same as the 99 SI but master cylinder is different). I am going to continue to bleed the system and see what happens but want to know if anyone has come across this problem? Oh my friend thinks that maybe its something to do with the vaccum on my car, i am running the stock sohc motor right now. My friend had the same problem on is 94 hatch vx when he did the conversion but later swapped a B16 into his car and he no long has the problem.

One more piece of info, not sure if this matters or not, i bought the Earls ss brake line kit of for a 98 GSR and was able to use the front lines on my 99 DX. They where a bit longer then my stock ones but was able to route them so they weren't in the way of anything. Not sure if this causes any problems.

Any help would greatly be appreciated so that I get this problem fixed and not have to pump brakes to stop.

Did you also replace the MC? How are you bleeding the brakes? You should have bought the 99-00 Si brake lines though.

I didn't replace the Master cylinder but am thinking of doing it. My friend blead the brakes for me, he had me pump the brakes until they where hard and then he would open the bleeder screw. We did that to each corner until there was no more air bubbles. I am not sure if that is the correct way to do it but thats how he did it on his car. I was going to buy the 99 SI lines but bought the integra lines because I was told that you need to buy the lines for which ever trailing arms your using. I wasnt going to use the front integra lines that came in the kit but when we were working on my car we tried them on one side and they fit. they are a lot longer then my stock lines but i was able to route them from hitting anything.

Since you only did a rea disc conversion, the MC upgrade is not needed. I was just wondering if you did because you would have needed to bench bleed the MC first.

In that case, all I can think of is bleeding the brakes correctly. It was fine before the swap correct?


Also, the trailing arms between the Civic and Integras are the same.

what is bench bleeding?

I will try and bleed the system according the haynes book today and see if it gets any better. Yeah my brakes were working great before i did the conversion. Would a minor leak any where cause my problem?

i did the same, the brake lines wont matter in lengh as long as theres fluid in them its all the same, but you should relplace the master cylinder and the porp valve.

Cool, I'll look into changing my master cylinder. would a used master cyliner be okay to use?

It is not necessary to, neither is the prop valve. When you upgrade the front brakes to bigger brakes, then you will need to replace the MC.

your brakes work good? did you have to bleed your brakes alot?

I was looking at my rear disc and one of my bleeder scews has a very very tiny leak. not alot of fluid is coming out, could this cause problems?
