99 civic hard to start when engine is warm
I have a 99 civic hatch with a b16a2. Sometimes after driving for a half hour or so and the engine is nice and toasty I'll go shut it off and go in a store and when I come out and go to start it, it will sort of just sputter on, starting at about 200 rpms and slowly climb to normal idle. When it does this it cranks fine and everything is fine after it starts, it happens about 1 in 4 hot starts, cold starts after sitting overnight are always fine.
Another slight problem is under low load acceleration up a hill the engine sometimes seems to have a slight hesitation where I can hear the engine revving and it will feel a little sluggish, then it will get louder and continue fine, I can feel a sort of chugging when this happens, seems to be like retarded timing but I've checked it several times (jumped connector and set at +16, tried +18 with no difference)
Has within the last year (less than 8000 miles) gotten new oem plug wires, ngk plugs, oem cap and rotor. Engine only has bolt ons(i/h/e) and exedy lightweight flywheel.
If anyone has any ideas about either of these problems I would appreciate any input.

TPS is at 0.47 volts closed, smooth transition of voltage up to like 4.49 volts wot. Tried different known good MAP sensor as well.
I have a Hasport rear engine mount and window welded torque mounts with the other two mounts being stock, they appear to be in good condition and don't move too much when rocking the car, is it possible they could be a problem?

On an unrelated car my starter solenoid started to go bad and would prevent the car from starting when it got hot during one Phoenix summer. Replaced it and had no problem.

Im assuming the starter actually works ok since he said it starts sometimes but is just a bit chuggy. Have you looked into your 02 sensor? Main relay? Any smoke when its chuggy?

True. True. The thread title keeps throwing me. I put too cold of a heat range plug in mine recently and it's doing the sputtering-low idle then climbs thing.

The starter was having problems, traced that to a bad ground on the battery though, cable was falling apart.
O2 sensors are both cheap advance auto bosch universals.
Main relay solder joints appear to be in perfect condition.
No smoke, the chug is very slight, can hear it through the exhaust almost like a small vtec crossover occurs (best way I can describe)
When I did the swap a year ago I had to notch the right side tranny mount bracket in the corner about a half inch so the starter could fit, maybe I have the wrong starter as it appears to be larger than most b-series starters but it's always worked so I haven't worried about it.

Re: 99 civic hard to start when engine is warm
Having the same issue with my 2000 civic hard to start when engine is hot. It's worse when the engine is hot and i let it sit for 10-15 minutes. I've replaced Spark plugs and wires, Distributor Cap and Rotor. a buddy of mine had the same issue on his ford and he said the problem was with the fuel sending unit..anyone experienced this kind of issue with fuel sending unit? My next step it to check the fuel injectors, EGR valve, PCV... any suggestions?

Now that you mention it, both of my problems could be from a faulty fuel pump. I'll get a new pump to replace my 12 year old d series 200,000 mile pump and report back here the results.
