Hello there.

I have a 99 Civic LX -- sometime back, the A/C system stopped working i.e., doesn't blow any cold air and when on, the engine makes a strong vibration/rattling noise. The fan, though, seems to work fine -- any thoughts what could possibly be wrong? I showed it to a technician who on visual inspection said that either the compressor might be low on Freon or compressor, itself, needs to be changed. But I want to get it checked thoroughly before doing that -- can someone recommend how to go about it and possible good/reliable autorepair shops in Austin, TX for this kind of repair?

I've also seen similar posts on the web so I'm wondering if 99 civics in general have a history of A/C problems.

You can buy freon kits at auto parts stores, to recharge your freon yourself.

The aren't to expensive, maybe 20 or 30 bucks.

You could try startin there, just a suggestion.
