98 HX with a little bit of hesitation
my car is a 98 hx coupe with a short ram intake and manual transmission. when accelerating lately i have noticed that there is a little bit of hesitation at around 3k rpms. it is enough of a hesitation to kinda make you lean forward. i know that the vtec-e crossover point is somewhere around 3k. it doesn't normally happen on very light throttle, but under moderate to heavy throttle it is noticeable. anyone have any ideas on what it could be?

Re: little bit of hesitation (pumatec8)
I have a 94 VX with the same kind of problem but mine is nut less before 1500rpms and after that it flys and when i down shift and floor it, it has the same pause that you descibed. I posted about it before and someone said to change the ecu but i really dont want to order one to find out it not the problem. My car has a i/h/e when i installed the header it seemed to get a little better but i dont know how? If you figure something out let me know.

Re: little bit of hesitation (95DxSi-R2)
No CEL. It seems like a misfire but ive changed the plugs, cap, rotor, and fuel filter. i just advance the timing (throught the dizzy) it seems better but not perfect. Also i wanted to ad that when my car is cold it runs way better and feels stronger and when it warms up thats when it acts up.

Also my car has a random rev limiter. I think stock it's 6200rpms and sometimes it will sound like a rev limiter at 5500 or 6000 just really random.

bump for a solution x2
I have kind of the same thing with noticeable hesitation/jerking around 3k rpm sometimes. Mine usually happens only after i have started the car and hit vtec once.. after that it usually starts to act up.

Re: 98 HX with a little bit of hesitation
From my experience from having two a 97 & 99 here is some useful information what I've learned pertaining to the hx's...
1. They have an egr system that needs to be maintained roughly 100k-150k miles you will need to clean the egr ports and egr valve. I'm not sure offhand which code it will throw but when it gets gummed up it will definitely light up.
2. It has a primary 5 wire o2 sensor where all the others have 4 wires. A costly fix and likes to go out around 150k miles.
3. Bad ecu's from the factory. My 97 was replaced for free by the dealer and the 99 has a cali spec one from where someone else replaced it but didn't get the exact one. I know the 99-00 have an old spec and a new one for both 49 state and cali so 4 different ecu's are out there.
4. They definitely like to have a full tune up or they will throw a cel at any hint of a misfire.
My 99 was just recently having some issues where when idling it would idle at 1500 rpm's, the car would be warmed up good and I would be sitting at a stop light or stop sign but sometimes it would go down to normal and it would also also run a little sluggish.
I took the intake hose off and used seafoam spray to clean out the throttle body real good and so far it's been fine. At first I thought it could've been the throttle cable but looks like I got lucky.
But anyways all the above issues will most definitely throw a cel which will in turn make the car run in limp mode, so make sure that the bulb is at least working so you can track those problems down.
