Default 98 EK Problems PLEASE HELP!!

OK i have a 98 EK with I/H/E and a mini me has been done to it a y5 bottom end and a y8 top end, the problem is when i am in 3 or 4 gear at about 3000-3200 rpm the motor is almost like it is hesitating to rev up and go faster, when i stick it to the floor it is really doggy until about 3600 or so and its like vtec tries to kick in but doesnt until 4 grand, i have a oil pressure gauge on my vtec solenoid to tell me when vtec kicks in so i know when it kicks in, also when this happens my CEL comes on but when i try to pull codes the ecu says nothing NO CODES??? ANY BODY KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON?? Also have been gettine really bad gas mileage. NEED TO GET THIS FIXED ASAP?? ALMOST LIKE SOMETHING IS HOLDING THE ENGINE BACK?!?!?!

No no timing changes or anything but it does seam like it is running rich but the CEL thing is really weird, if there was something wrong the ecu would pick it up, wouldnt it?

Are you sure that VTEC is engaging? Sounds like a problem we had with an ls/vtec we put together. Turned out to be a bad solenoid.

Correct, wideband responds too quickly for normal a/f guages to pick up. They are coming out with wideband a/f guages.. at least i know bosch is.

According to that thread i linked to earlier it says to try changing the o2 sensor first. This is where i no longer know and dont want to give you any wrong advice. In the middle of the thread there is a list of things that could make your car run rich troubleshoot them and see if any of them are the cause. Heres the list so you dont have to look and im quoting this from someone else like i said im not sure "somethings that can cause a engine to run rich.
3. PCV valve?(shake it if it rattles ur okay
4. Incorrect ignition timing.
5. bad injector( can hold pressure)
6. Need a tune(with the mods done it needs a tune)
7. what computer are u running?"
