98 EJ8 idle drop with A/C turned on even at 1
Just like the title I get in car runs smooth as silk turn the a/c on and idles just drop and the car shakes. Turn off the ac and she's just fine again.
this question has been asked many times but no clear answers were ever made.
its a 98 ej8 wiht a type R motor. my IACV and TB look pretty clean , Its about midnight here so in the morning I willl check the fuses for the AC components but if anyone else has any other advice please , do tell. its been 90* here for about 7 days now and im an eskimo. I like being cold.

whats it idle at with a/c on off ? rpm = ? fairly normal for the extra load of the compessor locking up to pull the idle down some but maybe your idle is to low already. so is it a b16b or b18c5 what ecu are you running.

idle without ac on is between 800-1000 about 1400 till it warms up.
I am running the b18c5 type R ecu the JDM version. cant remember the number on it forgive me.
would the AC even work with no belt? that confused me.
I know its normal to pull the idle a little bit but 100-200 is WAYYYYYY to low

no it wouldn't work without the belt and 1-200 rpm drop is normal are you running poly motor mounts cause they will transfer any sort of vibration . if it blows cold no strange noises and doesn't stall drive on

oh sorry my mistake. i would check and make sure that your IACV is working then this should bump the idle up when the engine is under load. will be on the back of the intake manifold

i would check the grounds maybe u have too much of adraw and make sure the pressures are good in the a/c lines

Ugh
I'm having the same problem with my car. I had the family mechanic diagnose it as a bad compressor but I'm going to try the IACV. Car runs back to normal without the AC and as soon as I kick it on it idles bad.
