98 Civic LX -- A/C belt or bearing causing rattle and squeal?
Hello everyone,
This is my 1st post so Hello!
I have a 1998 honda civic lx. It was rattling and when i press the gas the engine almost sounds like its squealing instead of that "strong" Rhummmmm you should be hearing. It also sounds like water in a hose that has air in it when it sits idle. I took it to the mechanic while the car was idle and they said the ac belt may need to be reseated or some bearings might be bad. I was wondering what I can do to help identify the root cause? Should I make a video with my Digital SLR camera and post it here so everyone can see and hear? recommendations appreciated.

take a long screw driver or so and put on the compressor then put against your ears and listen. Or spray some belt dressing or wd 40 on the belt. if it still squeals then its the compressor. GL

ok. The compressor doesn't turn on. the ac stopped working over this past summer.
Here's a video I took this morning. A little passed the halfway mark i go inside and press the pedal
any ideas?

bump to page 1.
Does it sound like the belt isn't greased up. I Might have spilled some power steering fluid on it by accident when I changed my rack and pinion. But it didn't start making the noise til I was on the highway almost 4 weeks later. The compressor screwdriver trick yielded nothing. the thing never turned on cause its broken.
