98 civic climate control lights turn on intermittently

98 civic climate control lights turn on intermittently
basically as the title says..
most of the time, il have NO light in my climate control (illuminating the blue/red and the fan positions). when i go over a bump, lights turn on... now this leads me to believe it has to do with the wiring. also, my friend with a 96 hatch has the same problem.
anybody ever hear of this before? suggestions/comments always welcomed

They are a pain to get to.
