Default '97 EX engine go BOOM! Will a D16Z6 shortblock w/stock manifolds-distributor work?

I don't know much about 96+ Honda's....and I did a search....so....here's my situation.
My brother somehow blew up his engine (D16Y8).
I'm thinking I could drop in a D16Z6 just to get him up and running again.
I would buy the longblock from a Japanese Engine Importer here in Chicago for $550- I've done alot of business with them and I know they have them in stock.

I don't know if they have Y8's because I never even gave them a thought. But I'm guessing they would be somewhat more expensive.
I would just use the Z6 shortblock and transfer over the Y8's manifolds and distributor.
My biggest concern is the distributor and if the 3 brackets will line up.
Remember I dont' live in Cali and smogging is not a concern.

So is it possible? Thanks in advance guys!

you can get a d16y8 long block for less than $500....if the head is still good, you could probably get him up and running for less than $300 for a short block.

Thanks.....
But will a D16Z6 work?
I don't have the time to check if the valves are bent, source a short block, and buy a headgasket.
Because I can purchase the Z6 tomorrow with a 6 month/unlimited mileage warranty. And have it in in a couple hours.

if you use the z6 head
then no, the y8 distributor wont line up on the z6 head
you can cut it to make it fit
its kind of a pain though
i did it but i used a mill
much easier
