97 del Sol New Calipers: How to adjust/bleed?
I just put new stock rear calipers, rotors, and pads on my '97 del Sol and I have a question about the bleed/adjustment procedure:
Everything is mounted and lubed, but there is a large gap between the piston and the inside pad. When pumping the brakes, the piston comes out and then goes back in. On every other car I've ever owned, the piston will move out to its final position when pumped and bleeding just gets out the air. Is there a special procedure for setting the piston gap? Do I have to adjust the parking brake cable for this? The brakes appear to be fully bled, but I have lots of pedal travel.
I don't have a manual and don't really want to buy one just for this job. I have searched the internet and this forum for this info with no luck.
One more question: Are the hydraulic brake line paired as front/rear or opposite corners? If they are opposite corners then I will probably have to bleed the fronts too.
I'm sure it is something simple that I am missing. Can someone help out a poor stock del Sol owner?
Dan

Re: 97 del Sol New Calipers: How to adjust/bleed? (Targa250R)
If you just changed the caliper on one side you shouldn't have to bleed the whole system unless you managed to suck up a BUNCH of air into your lines in the meantime.
I don't think I understand what your asking though. Your saying that you bleed the caliper, and it then retracts the pucks back away from the pad?

Re: 97 del Sol New Calipers: How to adjust/bleed? (Ricey McRicerton)
I replaced BOTH rear calipers. I realize I now have to bleed the fronts becase of the "opposite-corners" plumbing.
But to answer your question, YES, after releasing the pedal, the piston retracts back in to where it started. I thought that repeated pressing of the brake pedal would push the piston out to meet the pad (consuming fluid in the reservior at the same time). But mine's not acting that way.
Does anyone know the procedure?
