97 Civic LX MTX, shifter feels like its in mud
I'm looking for ideas on what to check. It used to be the case that when it got really cold the shifter felt like it was 'stuck in mud' until everything warmed up. NOW its starting to feel like its stuck in mud all the time.
- feels muddy no matter what gear I'm going into
- does NOT feel muddy just moving the shifter left/right (moving but not selecting a gear)
- No grinding gears when selecting a gear
- No metal to metal contact or notchyness felt selecting a gear
- doesn't feel like the clutch is slipping
- Only Honda MTF used in the car, changed last year
Ideas?

lift the car and get under and check the shift linkage see if anything is rusted or anything on it giving you the "stuck in mud" feeling

this advice was right on. Did a small gearshift mechanism overhaul, replacing shift rod and associated moving parts (bushing/joint/ring etc) as well as bushing on other rod and it now shifts very smooth. thx!
