97 Civic has large left-right freeplay in both front wheels - Inner tie rod issue?
Got this car about a few days ago for a beater and am working to correct a few issues. As I was removing the LF tire I noticed it had about an inch or more of play left to right like a bad tie rod end. The RF had about 1/2 inch of play. Upon further inspection, both the tie rods are good and, the slack is on the side that goes into the steering gear. I didnt have time to tear into it any further. Has anyone here had one of these apart or, anyone have a diagram how the gear connects to the rods. Or am I looking at replacing the gear & rods. The car is over 200k anyway. I am not driving it untill I get this cured.
