97 civic door lock problem
ok guys a little help. i just picked up a completely stock 97 civic lx sedan. only thing aftermarket is the stereo. now ive never had this problem, but everytime i pull on the door handles the car automatically locks its self even if im inside trying to get out it will lock itself and like all lx's when you push down the driver side lock all the doors lock. now i was thinking its because the stock stereo is gone which has the keyless entry/security but idk because like i said ive never had this problem with any of my other lx's any advice is much apreciated thank you

Re: 97 civic door lock problem
It could be the master locking switch or relay. You might be on to something also with the stereo thing but im pretty sure that really doesnt come into play until newer models.

Re: 97 civic door lock problem
previous owner could have rigged the handles or an open/lose ground wire from the lock actuator is touching a rod that completes the circuit to the actuator and locks it or something like that.... best way to find out is remove the inner door panel, check if a plastic wrap is still intact/never been removed, if none/removed, check the wiring, if wiring is good, pull out the actuator and take it to an autoshop/store for testing OR if you have a good skills on Electricals, and have a DVOM and some wire, you could do the testing yourself with a service manual of your vehicle.
