96 civic rear brakes question i need some opinions
hi! guys i put new rear brakes on my wifes civic its a 1996 civic 4 door and its has shoes and drums well when i took them of the right side wore on the metal and the e-brake cable was frozen so i got the e-brake replace and new shoes and drums and adjusted them, well now the righ rear everytime i hit the brakes to slow down theirs a squeaking noise the drums are not rubbing against the dust shield and i taking it apart 3-4 times and cant find anything any suggestion i know its a lot of saying but i want to give as much info can anybody help thanks..

Did you put some neverseize on the raised parts of the backing plate where the shoes sit? They run right on the metal and can squeak if theres no lubrication there. Do not use oil or grease for lube here, use neverseize.

I would suggest pulling the drum off and sand on the shoes a bit and chamfer the edge of the shoes, scuff up the drums a bit and clean everything up with brake kleen and let them dry. The noise you're describing to me is the same noise I've gotten after cleaning and adjusting brakes during services at work.

ill try that, i like to switch to brakes what would i need, i hvae a 96 civic 1.6 v-tec d16y8 i know ill need the whole control arm calipers and rotors of what year, but ill try that first

The easiest thing would be to get 99-00 Si rear disc brakes, the complete changeover with the trailing arms, rotors, calipers, e-brake cables, etc. If you click on the FAQ at the top of this forum you will find a few write-ups on the conversion.
Maybe when you wore the brakes down the drums are worn out?
