96 civic manual rack play
time to finally get this problem solved. If im driving over a bumpy road there is alot of clunking in my steering wheel. If i have the car parked and wiggle the wheel back and forth hard the sound is very audible and there is a fair amount of side to side play in my wheels. about a year back when i was on a trip in PA i got caught in a snowstorm unprepared and ended up sliding into a curb going about 5-10mph on the passenger front wheel(bending the **** out of my wheel). Immediately there was play in my steering. When i got the car home I inspected it and replaced all the inner and outer tie rods, put on a new steering rack from a 98' junkyard civic with only 84K miles on it and got it aligned. Everything was solid and like new again that day. but over time it progressively came back and it got to the point where its driving me nuts again. I cant figure out what it could possibly be, but i ****ed something up that day, and its causing me to wear steering parts. any ideas? when i get under the car and have someone turn the wheels the rack seems to be wiggling where the rack end bushing is, but from searching it seems that this bushing is not available for manual racks and is only obtainable through the purchase of a new steering rack from Honda.... im really stumped on where to go next with this but i want it fixed at any and all costs.
