'96 Civic EX - engine swapped - miss, code and trans
I bought for my son a '96 Civic EX with a '92-'95 D16Z6 engine, P2P A81 ECU and an automatic transmission. I have adapted the IACV wiring from a 3 wire plug to a 2 wire plug and replaced the throttle position sensor, neither one helped. I have two problems that I’m trying to solve:
1. surging miss at 1600 RPM – fresh tune-up, plugs, wires, cap rotor and fuel filter, cleaned IACV and throttle body, replaced distributor
2. check engine light on with one code – P1509
Any possible solutions would be VERY appreciated. Thanks!

You can't do the 3-2 wire conversion if you're still using the auto p2p.
Was the transmssion doing that before the swap or did the tranny come with the swap? If it came with the swap and its 92-95 I don't believe electrically it'll work.

I bought somebody elses mess. I didn't do the swap. I bought the car and I've been doing some basics like tune-up, fuel filter, oil change, trans fluid change, cleaned IACV and throttle body. The transmission shifting/banging have been there since I bought the car. The VIN says the car had a 4 spd. Auto trans and a D16Y8 engine in it before the swap but now it has a D16Z6 engine and I don't know what transmission. I was told that the 3 to 2 wire and plug in change was necessary but it didn't do anything. Somebody else had a theory that the TPS needed to be changed so I did that and it still has the miss, the code and the trans shifting problem.
