Default 96 civic dx

I am having problems with my civic, it is not running properly. The car staggers upon acceleration and kind of sounds like it is fuel deprived. I changed out the fuel pump and filter and I also did the routine tune up things as well. I am at a stand still. I am about to take to the shop. I someone has question I can explain more.

When you say "staggers", is the car bogging - as in stutters in and out of acceleration when you're heavy on the throttle or does the problem occur at any rate of acceleration?

The check engine light was on, then I deleted the code and it has not come back on but the problem is still there. The bogging is intermittent, it works sometimes when I ease on the throttle, the other times I have to come to a complete stop and baby it with the gas, till she decides to go. But at an idle she purrs like a kitten.

I had a similar problem with my 96 Prelude...the problem ended up being as simple as a crack in a few of the spark plug wires/tubes. Maybe check to make sure your getting spark directly to the plug? The way I noticed this was - I could actually see the arcing coming out of a few hairline cracks on the black plug tubes. Be safe if you decide to look at this yourself.

You might also want to just try replacing the spark plug wires and see if that fixes it.

Misfiring at low rpm and heavy throttle is usually weak sparks. Starving for gas is usually more apparent at high rpm.

So like EJ699 said, I would start with new plugs and wires. Also check the distributor cap for cracks. You generally can't tell if wires are bad by looking, but if you see sparks on the outside of the wires when running the engine in the dark, they're definitely bad.

New findings I was checking the throttle position sensor and I see that the housing is cracked. And letting air in also, one of the two screws that hold the tps to the housing are not even threading into nothing. Could that be the reason the car staggers and is hard to start.
