Default 95 sohc civic overheating but no heat

i have a 95 civic lx, which out of the blue will peg to the highest point that little temp needle can go, but 9/10 times i wont get any heat from the vents, just cold air. Finally just started steaming like crazy from the rad cap. the overflow tank is muddy looking, but the oil when checked looks fine, no signs of coolant. any idea what can be wrong?

Not leaking anywhere outside of the car. After overheating, now theres a funny sound coming from around the timing belt that changes with rpm, did it get f'ed up from it??

You may have warped the head, but you definitely have a blown headgasket. That is what milky overflow means. As for the rattling in the head; that could be a number of things. You will have to tear into it to find out though.

yup, your headgasket is definitely blown to bits. i would start looking for another head or a shop to machine your old one. this wont be a cheap fix by any stretch of the imagination. you might as well do the water pump and timing belt while the head is off.

from now on, if your temp gauge ever reaches half again, pull over asap, dont keep driving. blown headgasket is a step away from a blown motor.
