The oil temporarily seals the rings. If the readings are higher when you add oil, it means the rings and/or cylinder is worn.

Rings, or possibly ringlands. It's possible you don't need new pistons.

Pull the rotating assembly. You can do this without removing the motor from the car. Inspect the pistons for damage. If they aren't damaged, replace all of your bearings and rings, and reinstall the rotating assembly. If they are, replace the pistons, bearings, and rings, and reinstall.

had a the same basic problem with a b18c5. pulled the head and pistons and found that the 1st compression ring was broken in a few places. replaced all rings and bearings and it ran fine.

to get a proper seal when doing a piston change you really need to have the cylinders honed or overbored to match the pistons you are wanting to put in do to the cylinders being tapered (happens to every engine with mileage) and each piston not being 100% alike. Last engine i put together the pistons were all 82mm but one was 82.0010 and another was 81.9980 or something like that. It may be just my opinion but if you really want something to last, spend a little more time and money to do it right once instead of going fast and cheap and have to replace the rings every 10k miles.

Other than that, if the compression sits around 10 or 10.5 and your tune is proper, you should be fine with 89+ octane.
