Default 95 Civic - d15b swap questions (solved)

Hey ht I do not know if this is the right area for this question or not so here goes. I have a 95 civic email has a d16z6 in it currently. I snapped the crank so need a replacement motor. All I have been able to find in good condition is a jdm d15b vtec. I was wondering is there any weird things or issues I should know about doing this swap? Someone told me I need to change the oil pickup I think it was? Any info is appreciated. Thank you guys

it would pretty much be a direct swap, only thing is the d15b you have sourced is it single stage or dual stage vtec?

It's single stage vtec. I didn't feel like messing with dual stage if there was no performance gains from it. Plus my tuning connection hates tuning dual stage.

the dual stage is not to bad i ran one all last summer, difficult to tune as you said. if its the single stage you are swapping it should be easy peasy

I'm pretty sure the JDM D15B has a crank sensor (CKP) in the distributor. Maybe the thread you read is referring to the OBD2 CKF sensor (crankshaft fluctuation sensor).

The motor is on its way to the shop in Portland OR from texas. I'm having someone else do it for me because I'm super busy at work this time of year or I would post up progress pics

So the person actually doing the swap doesn't know how to do it?

He knows how to, he runs a Honda only garage in the area. I was asking for my knowledge because the importer of the motor was saying that it did not have a crank sensor on the oil pump and we needed to swap out the oil pump for a usdm one is all

If the mechanic runs a Honda only garage, then he should be able to answer your questions.

People often mix up the CKP and CKF sensors. The CKP is in the distributor of both OBD1 and OBD2 Civics. The CKF is near the crank gear and is typically only present in OBD2 Civics. Therefore, the CKF sensor isn't relevant or needed for your OBD1 swap. However, based on the importer's comment, you possibly purchased an OBD2 JDM D15B. Otherwise, why would he mention it?

Hey, I'm hoping that you may be able to help me out aain. Motor is in and it runs some what. It has erratic idle until it warms up which leads me to believe Iac valve. It has been swapped with the good one from my old motor and same issue. Once warm if you try to drive the car, you can make it abut 100 feet then cel comes in for the iac, and the car starts bucking really bad. Any ideas what else may be causing this. I'm stumped so is the mechanic.

Certain d15b's do have the crank sensor, you just need to identify if its an obd1 or obd2.
