hey, i drive a 95 ex cpe with about 112,000 miles on it. Stock motor except for a short ram intake.

I am not sure if the AC is working properly. It turns on everything and blows air, but the air coming out is not really "cold". At best, its mildly cool and sometimes just muggy inbetween cold/warm air. Is this the normal temperature of air i should be feeling?

Honda wants like 170 or something to "flush it out", which i dont even know what that means.

Any comments or suggestions?

i think you need a recharge on your A/C. I believe it's those "Free-ON" bottles. I've never mess with it, but it's very dangerous to mess with. You can get those bottles at Wal-Mart i believe. Make sure you know how to do it though.

WTF is "FREE-ON" you mean freon..


anyway.. dont flush it.. go and get it evacuated and see how much you have in the system and determine from there. AC system do leak after time since R134A is a very small molecule and leaks out as the AC system gets older.

I bet your just low on refegerant

what do you mean by "evacuated"? Sorry, never had any experience with cars let alone AC units much. Do i do this process myself or take it the Honda dealer?

What am i looking to spend, ballpark wise. thanks

That means to clear the system out... off all the old refridgerant and any other moisture that could have built up.

Then ad new HFC134a to the system.. its basically like starting fresh if you know what I mean

can this be done by myself or do i need a professional? Any step by steps out there or am i best to pay 200 to the dealer?

Let a professional do it for sure. It can be dangerous and $170 is just about normal for that sort of thing.

your low pressure switch is probably kicking out. It's a safety switch. More than likely you never run your AC in the winter like you're supposed to. You probably have leaky seals which caused you to lose your refrigerant charge. Unless you know what you're doing, DON'T get one of those DIY kits. You'll **** it up and then you'll be back on here making a post about how your AC sounds funny now and you get a mist coming from tiny little holes in your condenser.
Take the car to a shop and have them do a sniffer test to find the leak. Then after they fix the leak have them charge it back up. No need to recover the old refrigerant. You won't have any air or moisture in there because the system is under pressure. Just have them top it off after they find the leak.
