94 Honda civicEX timing problems
Hey I bought this car for real cheap cause it was over heating. suspected head gasket cause compression was pretty low fans come on and it had a newer thermostat. So I changed the head gasket new water pump and all belts including the timing went to start it and nothing. No Spark, changed the coil in the dizzy started up and ran for a few seconds then died. Wouldn't start again. I suspect the timing but if it was off that bad would it have started in the first place? Fuel compression and spark are all there do ya think its the timing?what else might it be? Haven't even had a chance to see if its still over heating

Re: 94 Honda civicEX timing problems (xisda1)
oh yeah it is turning over, not the starter. When I take off the oil cap and look in there is movement. I had thought I set the timing right but when I went back to check it was definatly off . Is there a way to set the timing right without the light?

but would that cause it not to start? or start and run for like 5-10 seconds and die and not start again?

Re: 94 Honda civicEX timing problems (xisda1)
when my cam was off time my car would start but only run if the rpm was over like 3k, if it fell below 3k it would just die but it would refire after a couple of tries
this may not be your prob, just making a suggestion

It is sohc d16z6 and yes this would be the first time. I had thought I followed the book to a T, but when I went to recheck the timng it was way off. I don't thinkI bent any valves or anything serious cause I'm still getting good compression. So If you could provide any links or any guidence whatsoever, I would be grateful. also, in the haynes manual they show a little window right above where the engine stamp is in which you alighn the flywheel/driveplate to a little pointer. I don't seem to have one or I can't figure how to open it. Do you know anything about that?
Thanks Again

if the timing is correct, then maybe the cam is too tight. are you sure you torqed the caps to spec. check your valve lash, that could be too tight also. too tight it wont hold idle and die

Re: (fmrprojects)
I tightened everything down to spec when replacing the head gasket. I checked and double checked. Pardon my ignorance but what is valve lash?. About the timing
the haynes manual they show a little window right above where the engine stamp is in which you alighn the flywheel/driveplate to a little pointer. I don't seem to have one or I can't figure how to open it. Do you know anything about that? Does the fly wheel have to be timed from somewhere?
