Default '94 Civic Si jumps out of 2nd gear. Motor mount inserts?

My transmission has begun randomly jumping out of 2nd gear. It's a 1994 civic SI with 189,000 miles.

I know that the motor mounts are pretty worn out. Is it worth my time and money to install polyurethane motor mount inserts to bring the motor and tranny back in alignment with the car ($100), install new motor mounts ($300), or do I pretty much need a different transmission?

Alternatively, I could fill the mounts with window weld, but I do not know if that would help bring the drivetrain back into the proper position relative to the body.

Hopefully you guys know more about this than I do. I shudder at the thought of spending $1500 on a rebuilt transmission for a $2000 car.

FYI, I've recently changed the transmission oil and I'm pretty sure that this is not a clutch issue.

your countershaft clutch side bearing has walked out of the clutch housing and is lifting the countershaft.

Take your trans apart, tap the bearing back in and stake it down.

Or swap in a new tranny, it doesn't sound like he's capable of taking it apart and working on it.

It's probably time for a new clutch/tranny anyway.

Unless the one he has is in excellent condition and he doesn't mind taking it apart.

Tap the bearing in and stake it down like this.

I've never taken a transmission apart, mostly due to the cautions that most repair manuals give about the need for special tools. Hopefully they're just talking about a decent pair of snap-ring pliers.

Then again, if I take it apart and mess it up I only go from 'needing a new tranny' to 'still needing a new tranny'

Not to mention that the next time I take one apart I'll know at least one thing not to do.

I fear getting a lemon used tranny. If I try rebuilding with no more capital input than new seals and some RTV I'm really not out anything but time.
