Default 94 Civic Questions

so, finnally getting my coupe on wednesday, and ive got a few questions.

first, it has had a short shifter installed already, but you can move it side to side like its in neutral, while its in gear. ive looked into it before, but i think its the shifter bushings? maybe one of you guys know.

and another thing, what do i need to run an oil pressure guage, along with a water temp guage? would electric, or manual guages be best? just trying to get an idea of what i need to buy to install the a pillar pod the owner gave me.

any help would be great.

thanks guys

gauges i will gibe my opinion !!! installing i am dumb as hell...!!!!
but the best for right away reading would be the mechanical gauges not digital
because the fact that the digital have a lag period and do go out a lot
the manual's last longer and are easier to read and if something happens it show right away it does not have to wait for the signal to register at all like the digital would.

so if you lose oil pressure the mechanical gauge will register immediately
but the digital will take a couple of seconds
and that can mean the life of your motor ...

Go to the Honda Dealer and get #28 it's a spring pin. I bet that there is a bolt sitting in that spot on your shift lever right now.

As far as gauges, if you can afford it go with Electric gauges and not mechanical gauges...you don't want an oil line running into your car under the dash.

Installing an oil pressure guage can actually create a problem, but if you must then you usually install it by using an inline tap/t fitting at the factory oil pressure switch location just above the oil filter on the back of the engine block. Mechanical definately.

Water temp guage - doesn't the factory guage cluster have one of these?

are you crazy i do not have extra oil lines in my car dash just crazy mechanical is the best
and the only way to go for true readings the digital only give an extimation and are not real time because of the lag

i know all about mechanical and electronic guages, and having oil lines inside doesnt bother me a bit, im used to it, i have a 67 barracuda race car, tubbed 12pt cage etc. runs 10's.

id rather keep an eye on what my motors doing, than relying on a light to come on...

as far as water temp, the stock guage in the cluster doesnt tell me what temp the water is actually at..., and the car im getting, the temp guage doesnt read correctly...

so, would purchasing a nice shift bushing kit solve my problem with the shifter? if i understand that picture right, it looks alot like a roll pin, and if there was a bolt in its spot, wouldnt it be doing the same job as that pin would?

when i get the car wednesday, im taking it to the shop i work at, shaking the front end down, changing the oil, sticking a set of plugs in it, and just giving it a good once over.

also, confused how adding an oil pressure guage could create a problem?

sorry, im new to the honda world, im used to alcohol funny cars, and 10 second mopars....

The bolt is way looser than the infamous "bitch pin" so check that out, get a nice set of energy poly bushings and im sure she will feel like brand new.

also, I like electric gauges. easier to run and wire up.

well, i was concered with wiring up electric guages honestly.

i havent really fooled with wiring, other than installing my radios and speakers...

but, i could handle it.

if you could explain how to wire an oil pressure guage, and water temp guage into it, pm me or post dude.

that would be awesome.

can you get that pin from an online shop, like jegs or summit, but for hondas?
