Default 94 civic ex overheating & terrible gas mileage

so i have a 1994 ex 4 door, still has the stock d16z6 in it and is completely stock except for suspension wheels and aem intake, ive had problems with it overheating, the expansion tank lid had a crack so i changed the cap, also replaced the head gasket, new thermostat, radiator, hoses, and coolant in the car as well. but still after a long drive it starts to overheat when in traffic or stopped, then once get going goes back to normal temps again..and also the car gets terrible terrible gas milage, only 100 miles per half a tank, has new fuel pump, filter, and canister too..what could be causing the bad gas milage, and i dont beat the car or drive fast at all either, hopefully someone can help me with these problems

Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter. When was the last time you replaced any of them?

Considering how horrible the stock fuel gauge is, do a test for us. Completely fill your tank, and reset your trip meter. Drive until ~1/4 tank is left, then refill. Divide trip meter reading by gallons in the second fill. That'll give us a more accurate number to see if there's actually a problem.

well it said it was at a 1/4 so i went to the gas station and pumped 6.3 gallons and i had gone 206 miles, so i guess the guage just really sucks in this car..cuz thats almost 33mpg

Yep, our gauges suck, that's just how it is, and they aren't all the same. I get 200 miles out of my first half tank, and I'm lucky to get 150 out of the second half.

Well, on the plus side, at least you don't have to worry about it anymore

From my experience in my Wagovan, the gas gauge is pretty accurate above half a tank. Get under half or 1/3 and it will get pretty wild. Sharp corners make it fluctuate as well as hills.

That's because we don't have baffled tanks in our Hondas. The fuel just sloshes around inside the tank wherever centripetal and gravitational force takes it, which can confuse the fuel meter. It's great fun taking a hard sloping off/on ramp, losing a quarter tank of fuel, and watching most of it come back a couple minutes later.

it may be my imagination but my car seems to get better mpg when its near full, then when near empty.

I hardly ever get her below 3/4 unless im on a long road trip. For the most part it gets high 30's and when she gets under 1/2 a tank it seems to be a lot less. then again here in ny you never know when your getting stuck in a 4 hr traffic jam so i never chance it getting low, and therefore never accurately measure it.

I've gotten anywhere from 33-39mpg with my Z6 on the highway. Stupid gauge pisses me off all the time too haha. First EG I bought I didn't know they weren't equipped with low fuel lights.

Have your radiator flushed and check your timing. Possibility that your ignition timing is a bit retarded? Thermostat also sounds like it might not be opening all the way.

Where is your needle when you think the engine overheats?

Sounds like the radiator fan is not running.

No hate man but you're asking to have to do a head gasket soon. Don't let it get that hot! Like just stated, make sure your fan is kicking on.
