93 Civic VX Tranny swap need help
Okay I got a a 93 VX hatch with a bad tranny. I am swapping in an Si tranny. Yes I know it has shorter gears which equals less mileage, but I need this car running ASAP. I can always change it later, and I have a spare SI tranny in my trunk right now.
So my question is, do I need any other parts for the swap? Or will my SI tranny fit right in and use all the components already there. Also is there anything recommended I do to the transmission for maintence? It has been sitting for over a year in my basement. Please opine I need quick help.

You don't need any extra parts. However, I would get a new throwout bearing from Honda (32 bucks) since you're in there. Re-grease it. If your clutch is giving out, then now's the time to swap it while you're in there. While you're at Honda, pick up some MTF.

Simple, straight-forward swap. If the TOB has no noise now, just use it. Re-lube the clutch fork pivot points and the other lube pts while in there. GL!

Ok so I have a few questions. Is there a way to get the axles out of the tranny without removing the LBJ from the knuckle? Also, do I have to have a hoist, or is 2 jacks good enough? One under the tranny and 1 under the oil pan with a piece of wood under it? Trying to get this going for a temporary. Man this Hatch is so rusted, Im starting to wonder whats the use?
Also does anyone know, is the front suspension cradle removable? Its all rusting and I dont want it rusting the frame. Im trying to stop all the rust dead and cut it all out where it can be visible.

It'll be hard to control that rust.
Just do the ball joint trick... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISY8bGof3bQ
2 jacks is fine, if you have a buddy to help you, that would make your life a lot easier.

It's a 30 dollar part. Why would you re-use it. Only way I'd re-use a TOB is if I had replaced it 4-5k miles ago. I'd gladly spend 30 dollars so I won't have to pull the tranny again in 10-15k miles.

Okay one last stupid question. Why am I supposed to take off the housing bolts before removing the transmission? The Helms doesnt tell me how many there are, and a write up I saw said 9, but Im counting 12. Am I doing something wrong here? Should I not be taking off these bolts?
Number 14 in this illustration, but it is only showing 11. Why am I counting 12? Which ones am i supposed to be taking off and how many? From then on its smooth sailing for me. 3/4 in impact does wonders. Already have more than half of the steps done.
Oh and how do I go around the bitch pin?

I'm not sure if dseries is the same amount of bolts as bseries, hopefully someone with a dseries can chime in.
To remove the transmission and not do the bitch pin prior to removal, you can just take apart your shift linkage at the shifter joint. Once the transmission is out, then you can take a large flathead or punch to tap it out. Have a friend make sure that you're not bending your linkage as you're lowering the transmission. It'll get caught if you're not careful.

Re: (civicdelsol33)
The reason I believe the Helms says less is because the dont count the bolts for the starter witch is 2 but 1 grabs the engine and the lower shield that covers the back of the flywheel they only count the actual bolts connected to the engine.

I heard a good idea of using my Si tranny but swapping in the VXs 5th gear. How would I tell if the VXs fifth gear is good? The car doesnt stay in gear and has a shynchro problem, but maybe the th gear can still be swapped into my Si tranny with a few replacement parts. Anyone know anything about this?
