93 Civic EX 1.6 Idle Issue
I've read many idle problems on here and now i am experiencing a low/rough idle at times.
My car has just under 100k miles (which is low for that year) and has been running nice since I bought it in 96. All of the sudden recently it has a slightly rough idle in park (not too too bad though) but when I put it in reverse it's hesitating a bit and stuttering as well as when I put it back in drive to go forward. it runs fins after that but at time the idle will drop down to 200-300rpm at lights. I noticed though that if I turn the heater on, it will bring the idle up a bit to about 500 which makes it run smooth.
Some history.. I changed the plugs NGK copper Vpower, cap (YEC), rotor (YEC), NGK wires (all twice) and it ran the same both times so I can eliminate them from being the main culprit. I changed the O2 sensor with a new denso oem o2, new purolator pcv valve...no real change. I cleaned the IACV as suggested in here.. no change. it still idles choppy (more noticeable when cold)
I also noticed a hairline crack in my muffler pipe right behind the last flange (before the actual muffler). Could this be causeing back pressure making it run like crap?
if anything I described rings a bell with the people that work on cars out there, please let me know. Could it be a timing issue? Map sensor? TPS?
