92 EG/Kswap/emission
hi guys,
i used the search button, but couldnt find what i was looking for.
i currently live in CO where emission is needed. i tried to pass my emission yesterday and at 3 different station. i was told since i have an engine swap that is newer than my car, i have to have it inspected by the "colorado clean air technical office" to see if my car is properly set up for emission.
i have a cat and one o2 sensor since the car is obd1. but technically, the k24a2 (tsx motor) is obd2 with EVAP system.
from what i understood from the emission place. the car is now need to be tested as an 05 tsx.
my question is, does that make sense? i mean i have had many swap Hondas and never, ever was questioned or mentiened if the motor was swaped or not.
just to clarified, this inspection is strickly for emission purpose, not state patrol inspection.
other question, how the ****, i'm suppose to make an 92 civic cx with an evap system and obd2?
this is in colorado, if anyone is colorado has had that problem/solution.
car is now set up as a k24a2 swap jrsc.
thanks

Re: 92 EG/Kswap/emission
for ur car to have an obd2 evap system u will need to swap in a K series gas tank into ur trunk and make it all work and pass emissions..ur best bet is to have it inspected by colorado clean air office and after u failed they will tell u what u need to do to make it all legal

yea, figured ill have em look at it next week. most likely. i will not go throught the process of swaping all that.
there should be honestly a "race car registration" kinda deal to where your emission exempt but cant drive the car more than at certain miles per year or something. this is stupid

but yes, as per emissions - you must have the emissions equipment for the engine that it was designed to use. so, 05 tsx - you need all the 05 tsx emissions systems and parts. tank, evap system, obd2, etc...

That sucks, you gotta love regulations that really don't make sense. Swap a cleaner engine into an older car = bad, but swap a old gas guzzler into a old muscle car = ok.

Emissions is a joke, I almost made a Clean air colorado guy, who helped build the testing softwear, cry when I started comming up with all the things that emissions didnt help with. 1 deisel trucks not getting tested correctly, generators and lawnmowers, anything 2 cycle, the list could go on forever... Anyways emissions is just for cash in Colorado and I heard it was going away since the state is lossing more money per day then its pulling in plus alot of there employes are kids in highschool or just need a job not people correctly trained on emissions systems. Thats why if you pay 800 bucks to correct an issue, you become emissions exempt for 2 years.
Anyways dont tell them you have a motor swap just say "I dont know" when they ask you questions. There only there to test if HC, NoX, Co2 are within spec is the motor isnt running correctly that is the only way you can fail. Dont say anything to them about the car just keep quite, there not your friend they just want your money! If they start looking under the hood they are not suppose to do that without your permission... so dont let them unless they need it for a pick up but here they dont, they just drive on hook a tube to your exhaust and drive it up to 60 mph then drive off.
You might need to wire up a fake secound 02 sensor to pass visual inspection, just find a dead o2 sensor and run the wires into the engine bay.. Your stock evap system should work to pass that part
