92 civic starts then dies when key is released
I have a 1992 civic 1.5liter automatic.
On colder mornings the car will start with the key in the "start" position, but when I release it to the "on" position it kills right away. It seems to help to give it some gas and hold the rpms for a about 5-10 seconds or so, then it will stay running. I dont have any issues with it killing when driving, at least not yet. lol
I have done some searching, and have found either the ignition switch or main relay (maybe something else I didnt come across?). I did take apart the main relay and the resistor solders were kind of "dry" looking. I help a soldering gun to those two and remelted them. That did not help. The other solders still looked nice and shinny and I didnt have solder at the time I had it apart.
At this point I am leaning towards the ignition switch, but I guess I would like as many opinions as I can get, lol. So please chime in if you can.
Thanks

It only happens on the first start on a cooler/cold morning, the rest of the day it starts fine and runs very well

So again this morning it starts right up no problem, lol, however it did start and stall right away on a stop I made on my way home. The dash lights were out. It looks like I am going to make a trip to that lifetime warranty ignition switch at the junkyard. 29.99 isnt bad at all, with a key. I had problems with my old key wanting to come out when switched off. I found something on the internet about taking out the pin on the switch. taking out the pin overrides the security feature of it. I have been kind of wondering if that may have contributed to the demise of the switch. I didnt do anything but remove the pin though, it was very easy and I just had to bend the plastic housing a little to get the pin out. I will see how the used one with the key works for awhile I guess. Kind of lame to have to carry around two keys for the car though.
