92 Civic intermittent starting

92 Civic intermittent starting
Intermittent cranking problem with 92 Civic.
New battery. I can hear the solenoid click but no cranking. Sometimes it starts right up. Other times it takes many repeated tries with just a click.
I would guess it must be the starter. Tried tapping the solenoid.
Any help much appreciated.

Re: 92 Civic intermittent starting
If the connection of the big starter wire is clean and tight and it gets battery voltage and the solenoid clicks, then the starter motor is likely at fault. I'd say replace the starter.

Thanks Ron. Went out and check and yes 12 volts at the starter lug for the big wire. Solenoid always clicks.
New or rebuilt starter? Suppliers?

Re: 92 Civic intermittent starting
Everyone has a different opinion, so hopefully others will also respond. If you plan on keeping and maintaining your Civic, my preference is to buy new and stick with OEM Honda parts. Majestic Honda is fine if you want to go this route. However, that will cost you $135-225 not including shipping. Definitely price compare by phone at your local auto parts stores for new and rebuilt starters.
