Default 92 Civic Hatch DX D15b7 wiring harness compatibility?

Hello, everyone! I'm new to the Honda scene and recently purchased my first Civic. It's a manual 1992 Honda Civic DX hatchback with a D15B7 engine. It has a minime Y8 head and a P28 ECU. I'm getting ready to start fixing it up and the first thing I need to take care of is the wiring, because it's pretty messed up! I found a stock D15B7 uncut engine wiring harness pulled from a stock 1992 Honda Civic DX with a manual transmission and a P06 ECU, my question is based on my civic's setup, would the wiring harness I found be a direct swap? Or will there be any modifications needed? Also I'm correct in saying that my civic doesn't have VTEC right? Or does the minime Y8 head and P28 ECU change that? Thanks!

If you have a Y8 head and are using a P28 ECU and VTEC is wired up correctly amongst other things then yes you have VTEC. Whether it works is another thing. The DX harness will work fine and should be plug and play. Then you'll need to wire up VTEC separately. The good thing about 92's is that it is wired from the shock tower plug to the ECU already even for non VTEC models but you'll still need to wire it from the VTEC solenoid to the VTEC pressure switch to the engine side of the shock tower. That or wire it directly with a subharness, check my signature below.

Thanks that's good to know! I found the D15B7 engine wiring harness online and will be ordering it shortly! A local general mechanic/electrical mechanic shop is going to swap it out for me for $100. They don't specialize in Hondas but if I supply them with the sub-harness you showed me and the instructions they should be able to do it in a snap I would think! So the specific sub-harness I need to buy from the link in your signature is "Honda OBD1 Mini Me SOHC VTEC conversion swap harness subharness D16Z6 D16Y8" right? Another question when I give the car a tune up, because of the Y8 head, are there any parts that would be different than the normal stock parts? Like if I go to Autozone and they ask for my year and engine and everything will the default parts such as the spark plugs, timing belt, spark plug wires, distributor, rotor, etc work still? Thanks again for your help! This is my first car I'll be going hands on with and really learning about so I'm excited!

If you have a D16Y8 head you'll get the spark plugs and wires for that (96-00 EX civic). As for the distributor if the previous owner used the B7 distributor (probably did as it bolts right up) then you'll need to get a cap and rotor for a 92-95 DX. Yeah thats the correct harness you'll use if you get it from me. I believe you will use the Y8 timing belt.

Is there a way to tell whether the distributor is from the B7 or Y8?

They are essentially the same housing. Check to see if your distributor plug is one connector or two. If its one plug its the Y8's if its two plugs its the B7.

Great! Thanks for the help! I've purchase the sub harness from your link, this should make wiring it correctly a lot easier!
