92 civic about to be put to the fire
Hey fellow honda peeps, my 92 civic is killing me. It will only crank over if i have the pedal to the floor, then it only runs about 100-200 rpm. when i let off the throttle it dies. Replaced spark plugs, distrib, ecm, fuel pump and filter. No engine check light. Unplugged the TPS while running and made no difference. When it first died on me, it was on the road and it felt like it was slowly loosing power. Compression test were 60-70-70-90 (bad, yeah, i know). Got it to run last night and every thing seemed fine. Actually felt like it was running pretty strong (60mph at less than 2000rpm)then on the way home it started giving me problems. limped it home at full throttle going about as fast as i could walk. This is turning out to be a real headache. any ideas?
thanx,
chris

Wow, you have basically no compression... Theres your problem. Well in my opinion atleast. Since all of them are low, buy new rings and head gasket spend a few hours and have a strong motor again.

Like the other poster mentioned - it sure looks like the timing belt. Before you start the engine again I'd check the timing belt. Look at the Helms book and follow the steps to install a timing belt to get the timing marks on the crank and camshaft lined up.
The compression numbers are way way way too low.

thanx for the info guys. I checked the timing belt and it was fine, did notice that timing is way off. No timing mark found at all when doing timing check, but this was all prior to it running good last night. Thats whats killing me. Car stops running out of nowhere, then runs good and a day later no dice, same simptoms. Tired of thowing money at a car thats not really worth it, when i could be putting the money into something better (i.e. not a 92 sedan). Thinking of just parting out.

ok, final straw has been drawn. dropped a bushing for the valve cover somewhere between the intake manifold and the block. aghhh!!!! Car is now destine for the junk yard. Going to try to part out what i can, but i'm through killing myself over this thing. Maybe there is a 95 del sol Vtec in my future, or a GSR, or.... anything but this POS.
thanx for the help guys, but i guess every car has its day comming.
