I have a 95 civic hatchback. I want to buy an armrest (i need more space to put my stuff) since it is my daily driver.

I am in the market on ebay for them. will a 4 dr sedan or a 2dr 92-95 civic armrest fit perfectly??

Thanks! please help

They are all the same. Only thing you have to watch out for is one of the brackets for the parking brake is different with and without the armrest. The two rear screws have nowhere to go if you use the bracket from a non armrest car. At least that's how it worked on my 92 vx.

well to be honest about the arm rest there isnt that much room inside of it. But i got one for christmas and i origanlly wanted the eg6 long arm rest but i heard that it dont fit on the usdm lower portion. So what i am trying to say is that its a nice feature but the whole storage part isnt practical. just my 2 cents

Its nothing big, but there is a couple of things that you could put there.... Plus It does a great job as an "armrest".. And yea, get all the pieces from the junkyard, I got one for my friend for 18 bucks... You gotta be lucky to find one though........

I've found a few of these in the junkyards in the last couple of years. Here's what I've learned:

  • The Honda Optional armrest is cloth-covered and came in black, grey and blue. Possibly also in tan and burgundy/wine(92 only) also, but I have yet to see these. These included a removeable inserted not-very-functional single-cup holder and 2-tapes holder. Thanks for the tape holders, Honda! Great place to store your classic Gowan or Kim Mitchell.
  • Some Sedans (the USDM LX & EX and CDM EX & EX-V) as well as some CDM "Special Edition" DX Coupes came with stock armrests with a vinyl cover. Sedans were tan, grey or wine(92 only), whereas Coupes were grey or black(wow-very rare!). No cup/tape holder.
  • Storage space is pretty small, but OK for a few things. Basically non-existent though if you have the cup/tape holder inserted. Works well as an actual armrest, thankfully.
  • The bracket that holds the back screws is different for the Optional vs. Stock armrest. Basically, the Optional one fits over-top of the parking brake cables, while the Stock bracket mounts underneath. No matter what, DON'T FORGET THE BRACKET! (I've never tried to remove the Stock mounted bracket but I ASSUME it's removeable based on what I can see.)
  • They are interchangeable between all body styles of car. However, it's possible you might not find a black armrest in your lifetime. In this case, consider using a spray paint that can be applied directly to plastic, and recovering the armrest in black leather or cloth. Quality recovering kits can be purchased on eBay.

They are clunky and get in your way. It looks good, It is more comfortable in relaxed driving but I spent ten years driving w/o one and then had it and hated it. Good for car shows and road trips

Is that the one someone mentioned earlier that doesn't fit very well in the usdm eg6?

It's good to know that there's a bracket to mount the rear of the arm rest. I bought mine back when they were still available new from Honda. I knew there had to be a missing piece since the arm rest is flimsy without it.

That poster was incorrect...the JDM long armrest fits fine in the USDM EH hatch. It has 2 brackets...one that bolts the center part of the armrest over the parking brake cables (same bracket as the USDM armrest) and another that screws in under the rear seats. A lot of times, the rear one is missing, but it's not really necessary if you have the center one bolted down.

Be aware, however, you effectively lose the ability to seat 3 people in the back, unless you like to have passengers straddle your armrest.

Alright well I don't think my hatch would move with 5 people in it anyways so that doesn't matter. I do notice something else, the carpeting right behind the base of my center console (the stock thing that isn't an armrest) has a square stitching as if something was there or if it came from the factory with that so you COULD put the armrest on it? or if its just straight up damage
I could provide a pic if that helps

Not sure what that stitching is, but yes, your hatch will accept either a USDM armrest or a JDM armrest. Both will require brackets. If you got an armrest as a kit, the required bracket is supplied.
