Default Which 5th gens had tape on side moldings which ones clipped on?

I'm about to remove some filler where somebody attempted to shave side moldings on my friends 93 coupe.

I'm just curious which years/models had the tape on moldings and which ones had the holes for the clip on?

Thanks in advance.

The CX & VX hatchbacks have tape on ones (came stock with no moldings at all), all the rest have clip on ones. At least here in N. America.

Bit off topic, but it irks me that nearly all car companies drill into cars for these moldings which could be held on by 3M tape.

I guess it's more durable in the long run, but ugh.

MKIII Jettas had them them held on by 3M tape, at least before they all fell off.

lol

Thanks for all the replies...

I'm guessing that's why everyone suggests not getting the tape on versions of the JDM moldings....

...and hey...at least it isn't like the earlier grand prix models that had about 10 metal clips that were bolted on in two places each all the way down the side so when your molding fell off your car looked like a post apocalyptic mess
