5 degrees and my car is over heating ?!?!
Hey guys Last night it was about 5 degrees here and on my way home from work my car started to over heat..... I have a fluidyne Radiator and was running just water and water wetter (Its not suposed to get that cold here ) I am guessing i had some ice in the lines pluging it up just a little bit ... sound about right ? Today i am going to leave it in the sun for a while then add some anti freeze ... does that sound good or is there something else i should check ?

I had that problem with my old civic. Water froze because of not enough antifreeze and it got very hot very quick. Wait till it melts and put in a 50/50 mix.

Dude, you need a 50/50 solution. Also, if you have air in your system that can cause your car to overheat. Also check your thermostat.

If it is only 5deg and you are only runnin water and water wetter, you run the risk of cracking your block. It is cold enough for water to freeze and when water freezes it will expand. The expansion is what cracks the block. So, get some 50/50. Also, you should be safe with 50/50 in the summer as well, especially if you are running a fluidyne.

The reason I dont run a 50/50 is cuz I live in the deep south and in the summer time its hot as hell down here ... and if i run that much anti freeze .... same problem .. over heating ...

You need to have 50/50 water and ani-freeze.
I live in houston, where 100 Degrees is a normal day.
You NEED to put 50/50

uh ya
its called flushing ur system before winter in order to "winterize" ur car, meaning upgrading the coolant to handle winter, like its -21 here, no one would be dumb enough to go with less then 50/50

If your engine is over heating in the summer time with a 50/50 solution in it, something is deffinately wrong with your engine...check thermostat if everything is cool after you get it back...especially with fluidyne rad, it should EVER over heat, even a little bit with the right mix in the cooling system...either the thermostat is bad or the water pump, but if its the water pump, youd see liquid coming out of the tear duct and also hear a squeeling coming from it...
Get your engine checked man, no sense in ruining a perfectly good block with something as simple as a thermostat or water pump...or wrong coolant mix for that mater...

Well let me clear something up here ... I am not a total dumb ***, running water and wetter in the summer isnt a problem .. there is no danger with that .... I dont have ac so there is nothing to worrie about freezing .. yes I am a dumb *** for not thinking about it when it got cold here ...........
Got a space heater and warmed up my car today with the it melted fine ... Flushed the radiator and did a 50/50 mix no cracked block thank God but it did kill my thermostat now its stuck open .. over cooling is better then over heating though .. I will fix that in a couple days ...
Cliff notes .. I was stupid Radiator froze today thawed it out filled back up with antifreeze and water ... thermostat stuck open fix it in a couple days
