i test drove this used civic 2002 ex. I can smell this rubber burning smell before and after i test drove it, so i ask the salesperson and he told me thats the smell of burning SOAP off the engine because he just Shampooed the Engine. But the smell is stronger from the back of the engine.....could it be the engine is BURNING inside? or is that REALLY SOAP BURNING.

Most new cars have a smell from chemicals and such burning off the engine and exhaust systems. It's normal for any car with less than 100 miles or so.

Its not new its used with 23000kms plus it has been in an accident but fixed. You think something is wrong? or its just soap?

it could possibly be something got bent and is touching a hot part or something like that. I dont know from experience or anything, just speculating.

It shouldn't smell bad. I work at a Honda dealership, and when our company details the cars, they don't use many chemicals on the motor, just spray it w/ water, use regular soap, dry it, and use tire dressing on all the hoses.

yeah its a used car and has been in a accident(Rebuild) but only 23,000km also the rear left side of the car is making a very tinny clicking sound as the wheel spin. The salesman said that its because the rotor has rust because the car has been idled for a while.......by the way is it a good idea to buy a rebult honda civic? the salesman said that this car can go like 4-5 years without problem
