Icon6 2000 dx misfire

last month my engine would cut out sometimes right after starting. I would be in first gear and nothing would happen when i press normally on the gas. Then if i would step on it hard, it would be fine after. Now the engine sounds like it is misfiring, the CEL flashes at idle and it almost dies. I have to push on the cluth witht he hand break on and the foot on the gas at lights so the CEL doesn;t flash. OBD2 gives me 1399 code. I dont know where to start (ignition, fuel, etc).

Importmant: when i bought this car i knew that the cat was finished and there was a crack in the exhaust monifold, and the engine burns oil. I dont know if i should just replace the whole engine, or begin to fix all of these problems and tough it out.

Where should i start? Thank you in advance.

I have this same problem on my EM1 w/ a JDM b16. I am slowly replacing things here and there to see if it solves the problem. Misfires are either with the spark or fuel system. Start off by changing out spark plugs and wires. Then try dizzy cap and rotor check the coils as well. Then go from there. One of my problems was that I somehow got incorrect spark plug wires. Changed them out with my old ngks and the misfire problem only happens when I am on the freeway keeping a constant rpm of 4k or more. Im starting to think the worst and think its my valve seals or rings because I too burn oil If you have the cash and the time I say swap it and get something w/ lower mileage and DOHC Vtec!!!

well im trying to decide if i want to swap or not. the stock engine can be swapped in parts and labor for $1000. I feel like i may have to do half that in parts just to find out that i cant fix it. I really drove it too long with a cracked manifold. Im starting to think that caused more damage on other parts and i worry that even if i fix everything; the engine will still be too damaged.

Random / Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected i think its detected by extra pollution in the cat

this is funny becaues since i posted earlier this morning my friend threw the same code on his 99 CL and had a random misfire. But now its gone he says. Driving it for long periods of time while its misfiring is bad for the engine. You should definitely do a compression test and see how your engine is doing. How much oil are you burning btw? And if your interesting in building the car, you could always build a D for about 1k and put a brand new (well basically new) motor in the car.

to answer your question: it burns alot. ive had hondas i know that they burn, but it burns way more than (honda) normal.

so i think i may just swap the engine instead of replacing manifold and cat, gas filter, coil, distributor cap, wires egr valve pcv valve, vaccum leaks etc. to find out that i cant fix it.

What d series would you swap/ build?
