2000 Civic intermittent grinding noise in 1st and 2nd
My car began making a noise similar to what you would hear in a reverse gear in any car but in the first 2 gears under light acceleration. It doesnt do it all of the time but randomly shows up and goes away. Im assuming thats not normal lol? Any idea on what that could be? I really dont feel like changing the tranny. I will be changing the speed sensor tonight so I thought about changing the tranny fluid; any recommendations on what to get?
Thanks
Thanks

Fluid poured out of the hole. The bottom of the tranny looks damp tho but this car needs a new oil pan gasket or the bolts at least snugged so it might be that. The fluid that came out didnt look bad but smells. I am changing it while im down here. Im starting to feel like it is a throw out bearing pooping the bed because the noise gets quiet when i push in the clutch now which is just fabulous lol. The axles have a little slop in them where they pop into the tranny; Im not sure if that could be related

Replace fluid with Honda MTF. Then go from there.
Noise without pedal depressed fits better with a bad transmission bearing. However, take one step at a time - replace fluid first.

Thanks for all of your help, I really appreciate it. Before reading your response, I had actually filled the car full of the Pennzoil Syncromesh that I had picked up earlier. If the Honda MTF stuff is better, I will change the fluid to that here soon. The noise seems to have lessened but it is still there so Im assuming it is the bearing like you said. When I get some more cash, Ill prob change the input shaft bearing and the throwout bearing while Im at it.
