2000 CIVIC DX CYP & Misfire Woes -- Really need help!
I have a 2000 Civic DX that is throwing codes for the CYP sensor fault and for a misfire. I took it to Advance Auto and had the codes pulled, and these were the ones that they showed. I can't remember the exact P codes, but they were the codes for the CYP sensor and a misfire code. The car has some trouble starting, but once it starts, it seems to run fine. Upon speaking to one mechanic I know, this seemed to reinforce the CYP sensor diagnosis. He said the ECU only needs that sensor when starting the car.
Things I've tried:
First thing I did was change plugs. No change.
Cap, Rotor, plugs and wires were replaced less than 6 mo ago. They're practically new.
I replaced the Distributor with a tested one from a salvage yard. I had him verify that the car it was on was running without a CYP trouble code. I installed it, and am STILL having the same troubles.
Some more research online led me to some things saying that this code could be due to interference from a bad diode in the alternator. I had the alternator tested and everything came back ok. A friend of mine that's a technician said the diode ripple was normal.
I'm at a loss. The only thing I can think of, now, is to replace the ECU.

Does anyone have a source showing a pinout of the Distributor plug and of the ECU so I can try to run this down?

You REALLY need to tell us exactly what P code you're throwing, because I've got a sinking feeling that you are looking at the entirely WRONG sensor.
The CKF/crankshaft position sensor is located within the timing cover, bolted to the oil pump housing, and NOT the distributor.

I think you're chasing the wrong sensor my friend.

I had the P codes, I just lost the place where I wrote them down. I actually googled them and it cross referenced to the CYP sensor, not the CKF

This might be a topic in and of itself, and I am a moderator here, but I'm wondering why the flowcharts you posted should be taken down/removed from H-T?
You are not promoting the downloading of entire service manuals in .pdf format so I'm trying to figure out exactly why what you're posting is "wrong." Have you been warned from another mod/admin that posting flowcharts is against the TOS here at H-T?
If it is against the TOS then yeah they'll likely be taken down. I guess I need to ask about this in the Mods' Forum...
