2000 Canadian Si Alarm Question
**2000 Canadian Civic Si which is 2000 Civic EX US
It got pretty cold (-35 C) and the battery on it died. I changed the battery and now when I go to start the car, the alarms go off and the engine doesn't start. I can get into the car unlocking the doors with the key fine but when I put the key in and turn it to the 'II' position, the alarms go off. Doesn't start either.
After some googling, I got some conflicting info on this model having a fob. I went to the dealership figuring I need to get it towed so they can program a new fob and fix this but the dude put in my VIN and said nope this has a regular old key (non chip). He said it's some electrical problem, fuses or circuit and that I need to bring it in. I was initially planning to bring it in to the dealership anyway because I figured they'd give me a new remote and program it, but now I'm wondering if I can just reset this thing myself and save some cash from the tow + diagnostics cost.
There's a red blinking light on the steering wheel column, I'm guessing it has a stock alarm system. The dealership person also said this model didn't come with an immobilizer. Could it be an aftermarket remote start system?

Re: 2000 Canadian Si Alarm Question
After market alarm or remote start will have a fob. If either there should be a over ride switch or button. Called a valet switch.

Then again it may not have an aftermarket system to begin with.

Column cover LED is often the OEM place where Honda put them on 90s Civics with the security system, so this makes me suspect you have one. There was a dealer-installed system available, so yeah this might have one. To figure that out, I'll defer to the 6th Gen Civic experts on this board, which is not me. But, on the bright side, you can pick yourself up a couple of fobs and you'll have remote unlock/lock. Fancy!

Re: 2000 Canadian Si Alarm Question
If your Civic has keyless locks, the keyless control unit (small white box) will be located behind the driver's kick panel.
The fob looks like this:
If you have the OEM security system, it is located to the right of the steering column:

Re: 2000 Canadian Si Alarm Question
^Truly appreciate you digging that up, I'll take the kick panel out tomorrow to see if I have a white box. I don't think I should since the dealer rep told me that but will do so anyway.
Is there anything in here I could 'plug' out to stop the alarm and make the car run? I'm guessing the entire system is more intricate than that and probably needs someone more qualified to take a lot at.

I would be surprised if your Civic does not have keyless.
It's premature to talk solutions until you locate the OEM keyless and security control units.

Re: 2000 Canadian Si Alarm Question
Quick update; took the kickdoor panel out and turns out there is no stock alarm on it like the dealer guy said. Then I took some screws out and took the part that clips on the lower left of the steering wheel. Turns out there was an aftermarket black box system, I just unplugged it and it started right up.
Thanks for the help all.
