Default 1999 Honda Civic 4dr Intake Help

Sup guys, my friend has a 1999 Honda Civic 4dr (auto) and saw my Ractive filter I put on my Grand Am GT and is thinking about one. I took a look at his engine compartment today and I've seen the air intake and stock filter box like it before. There's a hose that runs from the left side, accross the center and up to the top of the compartment where the filter box is. The box sits right on top of where the air is sucked in so I'm thinking I could put the filter outside the stock box but just remove the rectangular filter. What do you guys think? I've never worked on a Civic before.

I was just wondering if there was a way to put this filter on his car or is there a different filter we should use? If you could please give me the instructions for the Ractive Filter.

What I did is remove the airbox located in the bumper then cut the U pipe in half so it dosen't suck up air from the engine compartment anymore.. So the U pipe is more like a J pipe now... I use the stock air filter location for ease of maintenance..
