I am looking into buying a 99 DX Hatch very clean and interior is amazing, owned by a woman. She is offering to let me buy the car for 1000$, my friend is a mechanic but I would like to know the average cost before I give it to him to fix.

It does not start. Brakes and suspension need to be changed. It burns oil, the manifold is cracked. The battery is brand new, but does not start. It has a anti-starter and a alarm with new speakers and deck.

She said a new engine was installed with 100,000km and it was given to her but wont start.

I have no clue judging by what she sent me and I am translating this through french since I live in Montreal. Is it worth buying knowing I have no experience and my friend will be working on it? 1000$ she is asking.

Recommendations? Put a new engine in something like a b20 or d16 or zc? Salvage brakes and suspension from junkyard or buy OEM? The car is very clean and inside is amazing with new speakers and deck.
