1998 Civic LX - ATF Fluid & Filter Change
I'm new here, so my apologies if this is old news and has been asked a million times already. I tried using the search engine before posting this question, but did not find the answer.
1998 Honda Civic LX with auto trans and 1.6L engine.
I'm trying to change the ATF and filter. My local dealer is telling me there is NOT a filter in the transmission. HUH?
I was planning to use the Valvoline MaxLife Dex/Merc fluid to flush and fill the trans in my driveway. I am well aware that you are supposed to simply use a 3/8" ratchet and remove the drain plug. Allow the fluid to drain and then replace the plug before re-filling the trans.
I tried to order a trans filter from my preferred online parts supplier and they DO list a filter, but they also say the trans must be removed from the car and disassembled to change it.
Pardon me but - WTF? That's crazy!!
Need help. Thanks in advance.

Re: 1998 Civic LX - ATF Fluid & Filter Change
Theres a filter in the transmission, its really more of a screen, and yes the transmission has to be disassembled to change it, its normally only ever done when rebuilding the transmission. Simply drain and fill with genuine honda fluid, a lot of other fluids will cause harsh shifting.
