1998 Civic DX P1457
Hey guys, thanks for having this site. I have had success finding threads here to help keep my 98 Civic on the road in the past but have hit a snag.
Let me start from the beginning...
When I bought it, the a/c clutch was missing (knocked off or something) so I replaced the compressor and clutch. It wouldn't fill will coolant, so a mechanic (I know, right), jumped the fuze and let me have it back. I figured it out when I realized the clutch stayed engaged. So I did some research on here, found that the ECU might be bad. Found a used ECU off a wrecked 98 Civic, numbers match the one I had, and changed it out. Worked great, clutch engage/disengage just like it should. About 80 miles later my check engine light came on (first time since I owned it). Changed the O2 upstream, reset computer, carried on. About 80 miles later, check engine light. I went and got it OBD checked and the P1457 code popped and has about 5 different possible reason and 18 possible solutions. EVAP control system leakage.
I'm not a idiot when it comes to cars, but no formal training either. I think this is one I might let the professionals handle, but am wondering if a franchise place might be easier after what the mom and pop guy did with the jump? Any suggestions? I'm in the Hampton Roads, Virginia area.
