1997 Civic HX oil pan, D-series interchangable?
Hi guys, I purchased a 97 HX for a beater, and it is a salvage title with front end damage. Well, apparently the oil pan was cracked, and it looks like it's JB Welded (or some sort of bond/glue to seal it up. Well, there's a slow leak of oil.. everyday there's a small puddle of oil on the ground, I'd say 3 teaspoons.
I tried putting more JB Weld on there (it was worth a shot) but it didn't help. I'm pretty ghetto, so I was thinking about slapping on some Bondo on there (I would slap on a shitload of JB Weld, but it's alot more expensive than bondo, and it seems as if I need ALOT of JB Weld). So I'm willing to take a shot at slapping on a ton of bondo on there, haha. I know it's not for it, and the oil pan gets hot, but it's also worth a shot. I got some bondo leftover from some other projects.
Well, worst case, I'd have to get the oil pan replaced. I plan on doing this myself. Anyone know if all d-series oil pans are interchangable?

i think d series pans are the same, dont hold me to it though. as far as the crack in it, its not to hard to pull the pan and weld it.

I odnt think the pans are interchangable or at least I was told. Alot fo peopel will scream ALL D series oil pans are interchangable but most have NO expereince with an HX......just like all 99-00 civics are OBD2B EXCEPT for the HX which is OBD2A
Anyway if you are goign to be ghetto and cheap, just pull the pan like you were tapping it for turbo return line, clean it and JB weld it.

anyone know what the process of removing a honda oil pan is?
for nissan, all you do is take it off, scrape off the RTV sealant and put on new RTV and slap it on, bolt down, DONE
what do hondas use?

I have an HX... its 12:20 am though.. I'll take a pic of the y7 motor Oil Pan and the one off the y5 tomorrow morning. Not a whole lot of people come running to threads when they see they have HX in em. So I know how you feel. Haha. I'll take some pics in the morning. I'm off to bed.

remove 10mm boltd and screws from oil pan. There will be quite a few....I want to say 10 -20 somewhere in there....been awhile since I have taken mine off. You will also need to remove theflywheel cover...I want to say those are 15mm. After that you may have to tap the oil pan to get it to come off depending how many times ity has been removed.
After that, you do what you scrape the excess gasket off the block and oil pan. Do whatever you need to do, then put in a new gasket and/or RTV. I personally used a OEm gasket and that liquid gasket maker. installation is reverse of removal. Be sure to tourque the bolts back t specs or you will either overtighten or undertighten the bolts which will lead to leaks. Also, wipe any excess RTV fropm the oil pan when you install it before it dries.if you get overzealous with it, you will proably have osme ooze out when you install/tighten the oil pan. I beleive the Helms calls for 10ft/lbs. Hand tight also works too.
